How to Apply a Visa - Sri Lanka

The Sri Lankan Department of Immigration and Emigration has recognized the increasing number of individuals travelling for business and leisure to the country and has implemented measures to facilitate easy visa approval, minimizing the hassle of obtaining a visa. Therefore, Visas for Non-Sri Lankan individuals can be obtained upon arrival. Details of the visa application process and any applicable fees are found at the official page below.

Conference delegates must apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) online by visiting Electronic Travel Authorization System (ETA).


What is an ETA?

  • ETA is an official authorization for a Short Visit to Sri Lanka and is issued electronically.
  • ETA Visa will be issued for 30-days Short Visit Visa at the port of entry in Sri Lanka, so make sure to apply right time (normally 2 weeks prior to the conference date)
  • The ETA is issued through an on-line system and Most of the time you will get your visa approval within 24 hours.
  • No passport copies, documents or photographs are required. There is no requirement to endorse the ETA on the passport.
  • Upon arrival, produce your passport to the immigration officer at the port of entry to obtain the necessary clearance.
  • It is advisable for you to bring a copy of the ETA approval notice along with you.
